Background Information: The 1996 abduction and murder of nine-year-old Amber Hagerman in Dallas inspired the Amber Alert system that is now used nationwide to search for missing children. Amber was riding her bicycle when a neighbor heard the girl scream and saw a man throw her into the front seat of his pickup truck before speeding away. After her body was found four days later in a drainage ditch, a concerned citizen suggested that Dallas radio stations should repeat news bulletins about abducted children just like they do with severe weather warnings. Amber's kidnapping and murder remain unsolved.
